"Dom is more or less like, 'no, I don't go down. I show my respect by standing up'. Every individual is different and shows respect for this campaign in a different way," said Farke. "It's definitely a good campaign and a good topic that football and sports, in general, support situations like this because a dressing room is a perfect example of how we should all live together." Former Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha became the first Premier League player to stop taking the knee in 2021. "I feel kneeling has just become a part of the pre-match routine and at the moment it doesn't matter whether we kneel or stand, some of us still continue to receive abuse," he said at the time. Announcing this month's campaign,, external the Premier League said: "Players will be taking the knee before kick-off during the next two match rounds to show unity against all forms of discrimination." Between 2021-22 and 2025-26, reports of both discrimination and racism received by the charity more than doubled, and reached record levels last season. High-profile cases have also highlighted the continuing abuse faced by players. After England defender Jess Carter received racist abuse online during last summer's Women's Euros, the Lionesses stopped taking the knee. "Taking the knee, that's not enough. We have done that for a while. The impact is not good enough, it's not as big as we think," said England manager Sarina Wiegman at the time. In February, Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana, Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare and Sunderland winger Romaine Mundle were all subjected to racist abuse on social media over a single weekend. A BBC Sport investigation also identified 22,389 potentially abusive messages across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X over a separate weekend. Nevertheless, 2025 YouGov polling, external found a majority of ethnic minority football fans in Britain still considered taking the knee important in tackling racism - although most football fans overall in England did not. The No Room For Racism campaign extends beyond taking the knee. Seeing Ronald Araujo with the South American drink known as Mate is becoming a regularity around Liverpool . Those close to the 27-year-old say that true to his Uruguayan heritage, he takes the caffeinated beverage - made by steeping dry leaves in warm water - wherever he goes. The sight of defender Araujo in Liverpool's starting line-up is also becoming the norm this season. For all the focus on Liverpool's big-money signings, it is the one they got on loan that is increasingly looking like one of their most important deals. Since arriving on a season-long loan from Barcelona, Araujo has started eight of Liverpool's 10 games under Andoni Iraola, with six of those appearances coming at right-back and four at centre-back. Last week, he scored his first Liverpool goal with a header against LASK and there was a backheel assist for Dominik Szoboszlai against Atletico Madrid. With Conor Bradley out since January with a knee injury and Jeremie Frimpong now sidelined until the November international break with a muscle injury, Araujo, who is taking English lessons, is seizing the chance to showcase the versatility and experience that attracted Liverpool to him. "I came from a big side, as is Liverpool. I think people here, it's almost like they are more intense when you go down the street, when you go out to the centre of Liverpool, or when you go out to eat something. But that's lovely. Jota admits he "met some demons" during his long injury absence but believes there is no need to "rush" his return to full match fitness at Celtic. The Portuguese winger, 27, sustained cruciate ligament damage in April 2025 and made his first-team return last weekend in the 2-0 win at Motherwell. There's no lost time because I grew a lot. It had to be what it had to be and I didn't lose. I actually gained because I'm way stronger nowadays." European governing body Uefa has told Fifa it must release key documents and answer all questions relating to its governance and decision-making by a deadline of 2 November. At the Fifa Council on Thursday, president Gianni Infantino apologised for his World Cup sell-off plan - but failed to offer a full explanation for how the proposal was devised. In the letter seen by BBC Sport, Uefa general secretary Theodore Theodoridis said that world football's governing body had failed to address "a number of fundamental questions". "Others remain unanswered, and the information and documentation requested have not been provided," it read. The letter included eight pages of questions covering a number of issues, from the Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) private investment, to the Fifa Peace Prize and the controversial suspended ban given to USA striker Folarin Balogun at the World Cup. "The withdrawal of FFE, the acknowledgement of mistakes and the announcement of 'potential governance reforms' do not answer how the relevant decisions were taken or why the Fifa Council was not involved at the appropriate stage," it continued. "Any refusal to disclose information or documents should be justified individually, with a clear explanation of the specific grounds relied upon. "These questions require answers now. They cannot be deferred until the next meeting of the Fifa Council - nor can future governance reforms substitute for scrutiny of decisions already taken and accountability for them." Duncan Ferguson is plotting a return to the glory days at the Oval after his appointment as the new Glentoran manager. The 54-year-old former Everton star was confirmed as the Irish League club's new boss on a "multi-year contract" on Monday. Glentoran have not won a league title since 2009 and sit 11 points behind leaders Coleraine in the Irish Premiership. "I'll give the club everything and I expect the players to give everything as well," Ferguson said during a news conference on Monday. "Hopefully we can compete with the teams at the top of the league and get a bit closer to them. At the minute we're bit adrift of the top two or three. "I'll bring a football team that will really run, run and run. I'll push them as hard as I can and set them up tactically well. "Defensively we have been very good but we've lacked in creating chances so hopefully we can play attacking football." When Jack Hinshelwood unapologetically smashed home Brighton and Hove Albion's fifth goal of the game against bitter rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday , it completed a fourth straight Premier League win for the high-flying Seagulls - with an aggregate scoreline of 15-0. Hinshelwood's volley from two yards out to wrap up a 5-0 victory was in stark contrast to his team-mate Diego Gomez's audacious effort from the halfway line that put Brighton two up in just the seventh minute of the A23 derby. Fabian Hurzeler's free-scoring side have arguably been the most entertaining top-flight team to watch this season, but they have backed up their attacking flair with a robust defence. No team has scored more and no team has conceded fewer goals. After seven games, they sit third on 16 points behind reigning champions Arsenal and table-toppers Manchester City, who have a 100% record. But can the Seagulls maintain their momentum and mount a serious title challenge? That's the opinion of Match of the Day pundit Dion Dublin, who played in Manchester United's 1992-93 title-winning side. "Because what we've seen of them this season is just togetherness, harmony... the manager's making good decisions. "[Pascal] Gross is leading the line in regards to what goes on on the pitch and what is the right kind of way they want to play. And everybody's chipping in with goals. Once again, however, the Seagulls' enviable data-led recruitment model, aided by club owner Tony Bloom's close links to Jamestown Analytics, appears to have found a promising replacement. Having been used primarily as a substitute last season, Greece striker Charalampos Kostoulas has been entrusted to spearhead the attack, and the 19-year-old has repaid the faith shown in him by Hurzeler with three league goals and two assists. Only Lamine Yamal has more goal involvements among teenagers in Europe's top five leagues this season. Kostoulas has a strong supporting cast including Hinshelwood, Yasin Ayari, Malick Yalcouye and Maxim de Cuyper, not to mention a rejuvenated Pascal Gross pulling the strings from a deeper position. With 11 league scorers already - while also being the beneficiaries of three own goals - Hurzeler's men are sharing the load impressively. As well as being the division's top scorers, Brighton have had the most shots on target and sit second for xG, shots and big chances. In the top five European leagues, only Barcelona, with 39 goals from nine La Liga matches, have more domestic league goals than Brighton. Equally as encouraging is how well they have coped defensively despite the loss of centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke and midfield anchorman Carlos Baleba. Luka Vuskovic looks to be a tremendous acquisition from Tottenham Hotspur, and he has helped the Seagulls, who remain unbeaten at home, record a league-high five clean sheets. The rapid rise of a former art dealer to Europe's hottest young manager There are only seven previous instances of a team scoring 23 or more goals after seven games of a Premier League season. All bar one have gone on to finish in the top three, with Manchester City winning the title in 2011-12 and 2022-23. The outlier? Kevin Keegan's Newcastle United team of 1994-95, who faded and finished sixth. Comparisons have already been drawn between that side, dubbed 'The Entertainers', and the swagger of the current Brighton squad. With that in mind, Alan Wares co-host of the Albion Roar podcast suggested that perhaps a Champions League place, rather than a full-blown title challenge, might be a more realistic aim. "I think with the Premier League being seven games in and the other matches we've already played, I think the dream for us is sustainability. I wouldn't go for a target, just as high as possible," said Alan. "The club is really wanting to qualify for Champions League at the end of the season but yes, we've made a good start - are we title contenders? It's way too early to consider that. I would say that, at the moment, is fantasy stuff. But every football fan's got to have their dream and our point is, why not? "If we can continue this, and that is the main point we've got to look at, if we can be sustainable in what we're doing and what we achieve, then yes. Why not? Go for the sky, see what happens." With Conference League football to juggle, it seems improbable Brighton's squad can last the pace with the likes of Arsenal for the duration of the season. Leicester City, the last outsiders to lift the title, do provide some hope. They were eighth with 12 points after seven games of their memorable 2015-16 triumph. There is a chance Brighton's final league position could be affected by matters off the pitch. Last month, an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of the Premier League's financial rules over a nine-season period. City are appealing against the verdict, meaning the severity and timing of any punishment - which could take the form of a points deduction - remain unknown. Brighton have the chance to give City a fright when they travel to the Etihad on Halloween - one of four successive away games in all competitions - and the league table may well present a very different picture by the time November's international break comes around. For now, Brighton are exactly where they deserve to be. And they're having great fun in the process. Manchester City face the prospect of being without star striker Erling Haaland for Tuesday's Champions League game against AEK Athens. The Norway international scored twice in Saturday's 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town to take his tally to eight Premier League goals for the season, leading the top-flight scoring charts once more. But the 26-year-old suffered a blow to the foot in the game and is now a doubt for the European night at Etihad Stadium, as City look to get back to winning ways in the competition after last week's 4-2 defeat by Paris St-Germain. "To replace Erling is always difficult but we have some different options," said manager Enzo Maresca. "It also depends on the gameplan. "At the moment it is Erling. Why do we need to think of a different nine if Erling is there? If something happened or we need a different nine plan, we'll see." Should Haaland not make a recovery, it would leave Maresca with a dilemma on who to select up front after Antoine Semenyo was ruled out for eight weeks with the left knee injury he picked up in the win over Ipswich. Boos and bananas on day of defiance at Man City Haaland has scored in six consecutive top-flight games to help City to the top of the table with a flawless start from their opening seven games of the campaign. Against Ipswich, he scored his 100th non-penalty goal in the Premier League, reaching this milestone in fewer appearances than any other player. Maresca said Haaland "can be available" against Athens and will be assessed after Monday's training session, but that he was "quite good" on Sunday. Players can find it difficult to feature as back-ups to Haaland, as Julian Alvarez and Omar Marmoush have found in the past, but it was a surprise when Divin Mubama was allowed to join Championship side Southampton on loan in the summer. It left City without a natural replacement in Haaland's absence. Maresca has previously said Semenyo can be used "as a nine" but that plan is no longer available with the Ghanaian facing the prospect of missing up to 13 matches. One option mooted by the Italian is midfielder Phil Foden, who ended his barren run in front of goal on Saturday by scoring his first Premier League goal since December. "Phil can be one of the solutions," said Maresca. "He played already in the past in that position so could play again, but at the moment the number nine is Erling." Could summer signing Iliman Ndiaye be another option? The Senegal international was often deployed as a striker in Sheffield United's promotion-winning campaign in 2022-23, scoring 14 goals to help the Blades return to the Premier League. Last season, manager Pep Guardiola said Rayan Cherki fits playing in the false nine role "perfectly", with the Frenchman scoring in a 2-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Brentford when used in that position. Semenyo's injury complicates matters. The City forward appeared as a 77th-minute substitute on Saturday but hobbled straight down the tunnel at full-time with Maresca initially expecting an "even worse injury". The Ghana international has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists. "To lose Antoine or any player is not good," Maresca said on Monday. "In the first moment we expected an even worse injury, so we were more worried, but after Sunday's scan we feel much better. "It could be eight weeks. The most important thing for him is to recover and also when he is back, probably around December, we will have a new player in terms of energy. "It is a collateral [knee injury], something like this. It is not a muscle problem." Jeremy Doku started on the left flank against Ipswich and should continue in that role in the absence of Semenyo.

Former Premier League striker Saido Berahino has retired from football at the age of 33 to concentrate on coaching Burundi. The Midlands-bred Burundi international made his name with boyhood club West Bromwich Albion, where he had one especially prolific season of 20 Premier League and cup goals in 2014-15 before joining Stoke City for £12m in January 2017. But, having already faltered at Albion in his latter days under Tony Pulis, Berahino flopped badly for Stoke, who went on to suffer relegation from the Premier League in April 2018. After being given a second chance by then Stoke boss Gary Rowett, he scored five times in 2018-19. But he soon fell out of favour again until he was released by mutual consent with still three years remaining on his contract. Having left Stoke in August 2019 for Belgium, Berahino played at Waregem and Charleroi before being signed by former Baggies boss Darren Moore at Sheffield Wednesday in August 2021. He has since played in Cyprus, India and Slovenia, as well as for his native country, having previously been capped by England at all age levels up to and including under-21. Berahino was twice called up for England's full squad by then manager Roy Hodgson - but was not picked to play. Berahino reserved special thanks for his first club, for whom he scored 36 goals in 121 appearances in all competition, including a hat-trick on his first start, as a 20-year-old, against Newport County in the EFL Cup in August 2013. In a statement, entitled 'A Letter To The Game', posted on Instagram, Berahino wrote: "I want to thank West Bromwich Albion for believing in me when I was a boy. "Those years at the club, the goals, the fans, the moments, they will always be special. There were highs and lows, mistakes and lessons. I learned that the game can lift you up and test you at the same time. "The time has come to hang up the boots. My body and my heart are ready for the next chapter. England and Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has been handed a £1,000 court bill after his Range Rover was caught running a red light. The 26-year-old's vehicle was caught on camera going past a set of lights in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, 1.1 seconds after they turned red. Gibbs-White, who earned his first England cap in 2024, failed to respond to two police letters asking him to confirm if he had been driving at the time of the red light offence, according to court documents. Last Tuesday, he was convicted by a court of failing to provide the identity of a driver at the time of an offence. Nottinghamshire Police put out an alert on Gibbs-White's car when the force tried to investigate the traffic light incident, and found the number plate registered with the DVLA was one letter different from what was on the vehicle. Staffordshire Police then pulled over the Range Rover in April and confirmed it belonged to Gibbs-White. At Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court, he was fined £660, given six penalty points on his licence and ordered to pay £120 in costs and a £264 victim surcharge. A court official said Gibbs-White did not enter a plea or mitigation, and was sentenced behind closed doors under the fast-track Single Justice Procedure. Court papers show a Nottinghamshire Police camera caught Gibbs-White's car going past a red traffic light at 15:17 GMT on 28 January in Radcliffe Road. "At the time of the offence, the vehicle was captured failing to comply with a red light signal, the time into the red light was recorded as 1.1 seconds," a police worker wrote in her statement. Gibbs-White was banned from driving for six months in May last year after he was caught speeding six times in the space of three months. At the time, he was ordered to pay just under £4,000 in fines for the spate of offences, including two speeding tickets acquired on the same day. England manager Sarina Wiegman has signed a two-year contract extension with the Lionesses. The 56-year-old's previous deal was due to expire after next summer's World Cup, but her new contract will run until the end of Euro 2029. Dutchwoman Wiegman guided England to their second straight European Championship title with victory over Spain in the Euro 2025 final. The victory meant the Lionesses became the first England team - women's or men's - to win a major trophy on foreign soil. "I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football," said Wiegman. "Working for a world-class organisation like The FA, and alongside so many people dedicated to winning England teams and the growth of our game, excites me every day." England thrashed Greece 8-1 on aggregate last week to qualify for round two of the World Cup play-offs, where they will face Ukraine. Should the Lionesses win that two-legged tie, they will qualify for next summer's World Cup in Brazil. "My main concern right now is absolutely the World Cup, and helping this squad realise their potential in the years to come," Wiegman added. "We have an important job to do to confirm our place in Brazil, and hopefully we can do that and give the country another special summer to remember next year." Former Everton and Rangers striker Duncan Ferguson has sensationally been named as the new manager of Irish Premiership club Glentoran. The 54-year-old, who also played for Dundee United and Newcastle United and won seven caps for Scotland, will take up the reins at the east Belfast club on what the club say is a "multi-year contract". Ferguson's coaching career to date includes being assistant manager at Everton under renowned managers Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benitez, and also two spells as caretaker boss. In recent years, he has managed Forest Green Rovers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Ferguson's surprise appointment follows the departure of Declan Devine as manager of the Irish League outfit in September. His former Dundee United team-mate Gary Bollan, with whom he worked at Inverness, has been named as assistant manager. Glentoran have not won a league title since 2009 despite significant investment from owner Ali Pour and the adoption of a full-time professional model in recent years. "I am delighted to become manager of Glentoran," said Ferguson, whose first game as boss will be at home to Ballymena United on Saturday (15:00 BST). "This is a big club with a tremendous history, and it is a great opportunity for me. I understand the responsibility that comes with the job. "I want to win trophies here. Glentoran should be challenging for the title and every cup and shield we enter. I know that success here will be judged on what we win. "I still can't believe it - it's a huge appointment and I'm interested to see his plans for Glentoran," Leeman told BBC Radio Ulster. "It is a risk and he's been known more as a number two. But he has bags of experience in football. He's worked at the top, top level and there's certainly something he can add to the team. "He doesn't know the league so I think he has to have people around him who do. "He's coming to the Irish League to probably try to resurrect his own managerial career. He will demand respect from the players straight away and it's certainly going to be interesting." The Glens had been linked with a move to appoint former Northern Ireland international Jim Magilton, but the ex-Ipswich Town and Queens Park Rangers opted to remain with their Irish Premiership rivals Cliftonville. Devine left by mutual consent after two and a half years at the helm. The former Derry City and Bohemians boss guided the club to a County Antrim Shield success in the 2024-25 season, their first trophy triumph since lifting the Irish Cup in 2020. Ferguson is now tasked with ending the long drought since the Glens' last league victory 17 years ago. "If Wouter Vrancken was given the opportunity to play this game again, would he change anything?" The question was posed by bewildered former Heart of Midlothian midfielder Andy Halliday after the Tynecastle club were torn apart by Celtic on Sunday. His suspicion is that the Belgian coach would not. Vrancken's side were two down inside 10 minutes. Four adrift inside 40. A fifth was conceded before the break. Two more found their net after half-time on what was a wretched day in Hearts' nascent title challenge. The Celtic Park scenes offered echoes of what happened in the opening games of his tenure - heavy European qualification defeats by Sturm Graz and Benfica as a wide-open, attack-minded side were torn asunder. Latest Hearts news, analysis and fan views But it's how Hearts' new head coach plays - how the club want him to play - and a style which had underpinned a goal-laden run of 13 games with just one defeat. Afterwards, Vrancken spoke repeatedly of mistakes by players which cost his side goals. He did not, however, reflect on his own decisions. "We made a few individual mistakes," he told BBC Sport Scotland. "Two set-plays killed our game at the start. All of their goals were individual mistakes and then it's difficult to win a game. "In the set-play moments, you have to be on top of your toes, you have to be on front foot to attack the ball. Against individual mistakes, you can't do too much. "Only thing that cannot happen is that everybody starts doubting now in his own qualities. Also, when you are one of the guys that made a mistake, just learn from it. "After Monday, it has to be gone because there's another game to come." It is inarguable that Hearts players made bad decisions in big moments at a place where their title dreams crumbled last May. Indeed, former Tynecastle defender Ryan McGowan suggested "a lot of players went missing" and that whatever instructions Vrancken gave them "went completely out their ears". Former Scotland striker Kris Boyd, though, was more astonished by how Hearts approached the trip to a venue where they won last autumn. "I've never seen defending like that in all my life," he said on Sky Sports. "Hearts are still trying to go toe-to-toe with Celtic on 89 minutes. "You've got to pay respect to Celtic. If you go man-for-man, they will demolish you and that's exactly what happened there." Halliday picked up that theme and suggested that Vrancken might benefit from adapting his preferred approach in circumstances such as these. "There was no accountablity," he added on Sportsound. "He was talking about players' errors, rather than his own errors, which were pretty glaring for me. "Anyone who's watched Celtic this year will know they target the front post from set-pieces, but Hearts' set up didn't try to negate that. "I've praised Vrancken to the hilt - and I still think they'll finish in the top three - but my worry is if he had the opportunity to play that game again, I don't think he'd do anything differently and what he said just proved that." Steve: My concern is the Hearts manager never seems to change his formation when things are not working out. He needs to be flexible at times, or we'll see these scorelines a lot with bigger teams.
